DIY - All Of My Memories Vol 2
« on: April 26, 2017, 06:34:03 PM »
I've posted before noting that I thought the 2014 release "All Of My Memories" has been one of the most satisfying and enjoyably posthumous releases to date. It's a shame though that so few "rare" tracks were included for the ardent fan. I think a 5 cd set could have been justified to accommodate more "hard to find" songs. Having waited patiently now for some time for Sony Legacy to contact ME on my opinion on what should be included in a Volume 2 release (!), well, I've compiled my own Volume 2 - a "Do It Yourself" exercise in fun. I've followed a few basic rules:

* Emphasis on enjoyable sound quality
* More rare tracks
* Approx chronological order
* Songs I really like (no surprise there)
* Cover as many different records as possible (especially those left off of Vol. 1)

Here's the track list I settled on - 91 performances! I burned a copy for my car to listen on my daily commute to work - I think it works rather well. Let me know what you think.

@Jokerman: What a nice effort, and I absolutely second you on that proposal. I do have some doubts, though, as to the feasibility of a lot of tracks and would like to suggest a few additions/changes:

As to the Mitchell Trio version of Jet Plane, I would rather go for their studio version instead of the live version.
I don't think that such compilation will need two versions of "Four Srong Winds".
I would definitely love to have more known demo recordings  from the early years, such as "Speak Softly" and "Carry Everbody Along".

Other songs not on your list are:

Sister Cities
18 Holes
Just a Dream Away
Jenny's Souvenir
Fight, Fight, Fight
Yellowstone (Coming Home) (demo home recording)

Just a few thoughts :-)

The two songs are further outtakes from the "Dreamland Express" album. By pure coincidence I ran into a track list from that album more than 30 years ago (actually in late 1985 or early 1986). The list included four additional tracks:  "Jenny's Souvenir", "Fight, Fight, Fight", "Don't Be Kid" and "I Can't Escape". At first I thought it was just a misprint, but when the "One World" album came out in the summer of 1986 that contained "I Can't Escape" I suddenly knew that the additional tracks were genuine songs. Much later, in 1999, I believe, Sony/BMG released "Don't Be Kind" on the compilation album "Portrait", a further proof that there must be (at least) two more songs in the vaults somewhere that nobody has ever heard of.
